Congressional tit-for-tat continues under new leadership

One of the fondest memories I have of my father was his philosophy for dealing with those who treated him in a disrespectful manner.  His message to me was, “If you don’t rise above the level of your adversaries, you will never make productive changes in life.  Instead you will simply waste time mimicking each other’s aberrant behavior.”
Apparently our President and the U.S. Congress could benefit greatly from my dad’s advice.  Most troubling are House Speaker, John Boehner’s, and our U.S. Senate’s recent actions concerning the nation of Israel, and foreign policy negotiations with Iran, which displayed, to the entire world, a total disrespect for the office of the president of the United States.
Even more troubling is the fact that many individuals justify these actions by asserting that the president disrespected some members of Congress first, and that he, and the Democrats in Congress deserve this payback for all their mistreatment of Republicans during previous years.  Most agree that they’re just getting what they deserve and it’s about time; a thought process reminiscent of the playground behavior of children.
Sadly, no one can deny some of the past unconscionable actions unwisely executed by the president and Democratic legislators.
However, those whom we have NEWLY entrusted to lead this country seem to prefer to maintain this status quo philosophy of tit-for-tat rather than RISE ABOVE the mundane and lead.
The United States is presently a respected leader of the free world, but where this country is headed by such continued behavior is not known.  However one thing is certain, unless someone or some group decides to rise above the pettiness that now exists within our government, nothing will be accomplished, for we “will simply waste time mimicking each other‘s aberrant behavior.”
